Terms and conditions
These terms are the agreement between you and Event Tix whenever you use this site — browsing it, buying a ticket, or selling one.
In effect from
1.Who we are, and what this covers
Event Tix is an event ticketing and discovery platform operating in Nigeria, run by Event Tix. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “Event Tix” mean that company; “you” means you.
By creating an account, buying a ticket or listing an event, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the service.
You must be at least 18 to create an account, or have the consent of a parent or guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf.
2.Your account
An account is currently required to buy a ticket, so that your tickets have somewhere to live and you can find them again if an email goes astray.
- Give a name and an email address you actually use.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anyone who signs in as you can see your orders and your tickets.
- One account per person. Do not create an account for someone else without their permission.
- Tell us at support@eventtix.com.ng if you think somebody else has got into your account.
3.What Event Tix is, and who you buy from
We are a marketplace, not the producer of the events listed here. Each event belongs to the organiser who published it. They decide the line-up, the venue, the start time, the prices, the door policy and whether a ticket can be refunded.
When you buy a ticket, your contract for admission is with that organiser. We act as their agent for collecting payment and issuing the ticket. So a complaint about the event itself — it started late, the act did not appear, the venue changed — is a matter between you and the organiser, and we will help you reach them.
We do not verify every claim an organiser makes about their event, and we are not responsible for the accuracy of a listing. We do remove listings we find to be fraudulent or unlawful — see clause 11.
4.Prices, fees and payment
Every price on this site is in Nigerian naira (₦) and includes any tax the organiser has chosen to include in it.
We charge a service fee of 3.5% + ₦100 per order, added on top of the ticket price rather than taken out of it. A ₦1,000 ticket is therefore ₦1,135 at checkout, and the organiser receives the full ₦1,000. The fee is shown to you in the order summary before you pay.
Payment is taken by a licensed third-party payment provider. Your card or bank details go to them, not to us — we never receive or store them. We keep a reference for the transaction so we can match your payment to your order.
An order is only confirmed once the payment provider tells us, on our own servers, that the payment succeeded. Returning to the site from a payment page is not by itself confirmation, and tickets are not issued until the payment is confirmed.
5.Your ticket
Each ticket carries a unique code, shown as a QR code and printed on the ticket you can download. That code is what admits someone.
Treat the code like cash. Anyone who holds it can use it. We cannot tell whether the person at the door is you, so do not post a ticket, a QR code or a ticket link publicly, and do not share it with anyone you do not intend to admit.
- One ticket admits one person once. Once it has been scanned it cannot be used again, including by you.
- You may pass a ticket to someone you know at face value or below. You may not resell it for more than you paid, and you may not sell tickets as a business without the organiser’s written agreement.
- We may void a ticket, without a refund, if we have good reason to believe it was obtained fraudulently, bought with a stolen payment instrument, or resold in breach of this clause.
- A lost code can usually be recovered: it stays in your account and in the confirmation email.
6.Changes, cancellations and refunds
Refunds are the organiser’s decision, because the money is theirs. Each event states its own policy, and by buying you accept the policy shown on that event.
- If the organiser cancels the event you are entitled to the ticket price back from them, and we will return our service fee as well.
- If the event is postponed or moved your ticket normally stays valid for the new date. If the new date does not suit you, ask the organiser — whether they refund you is their policy.
- If you simply change your mind there is no automatic right to a refund, and our service fee is not returned. Many organisers will still help if you ask early.
- Nothing in this clause takes away rights you have under Nigerian consumer protection law, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018.
Refunds are currently arranged by hand. Write to support@eventtix.com.ng with your order reference and we will take it up with the organiser. Money is returned to the account you paid from, and the payment provider’s timing applies.
7.Getting in
For an event with a venue, bring your ticket — on your phone or printed — and have the QR code ready at the door. For an online or hybrid event, your ticket has its own joining link, which opens at the time the organiser sets.
- The organiser and the venue control admission. They may refuse entry or ask someone to leave under their own conditions of entry, and may require proof of age.
- Arriving after the doors close, or after the event has started, may mean you are not admitted. That is the organiser’s policy, not ours.
- Recording, photography and what you may bring in are the organiser’s rules.
8.If you sell tickets here
This clause applies in addition to the rest of these terms if you list or sell events on Event Tix.
- You confirm you have the right to run the event and to sell tickets to it, and that everything in your listing is accurate.
- You are responsible for the event: delivering it as described, the safety of the people who attend, and every licence, permit and tax it requires.
- You will honour every valid ticket sold through this platform, and you will state a refund policy and stand by it.
- Your team members see attendee names and email addresses in order to check people in. You will use that information only to run the event, will keep it secure, and will not sell it or add anyone to a marketing list without their consent.
- You will tell your attendees promptly if you cancel, postpone or move an event, and you will settle refunds owed to them.
- We may unpublish an event, suspend its sales or withhold the money from it if we reasonably believe it is fraudulent, unlawful, or a risk to the people buying tickets.
9.Money organisers receive
Ticket money is collected into our payment provider account and passed on to you. You receive the face value of every ticket sold — our fee is charged to the buyer on top and is never taken out of your price.
- Payouts are arranged directly with us at the moment, to the bank account you nominate in writing. We will agree a schedule with you before your event goes on sale.
- We may hold money from an event until after it has taken place, or while we look into a chargeback, a dispute or a suspected fraud.
- Refunds you agree to, chargebacks raised against your sales, and any provider charges on them are set against what you are owed.
- You are responsible for the tax due on your own income.
10.Your personal information
We keep the least we can: your name and email address, the orders and tickets belonging to you, whether a ticket has been used, and a reference for each payment. We do not receive or store your card details.
- We use it to run your account, issue your tickets, let the organiser check you in, and answer you when you write to us.
- We share your name and email with the organiser of an event you bought a ticket to, because they need it at the door. We do not sell your information to anyone.
- We use a payment provider, an email delivery service and a hosting provider to operate the platform, and they process data on our instructions.
- You may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Write to support@eventtix.com.ng. We keep order and ticket records for as long as we are required to for accounting and tax purposes, even after an account is closed.
- We handle personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
11.Things you must not do
- Do not list an event you have no right to sell, or one that is unlawful.
- Do not pay with a card or account that is not yours, and do not use this platform to launder money.
- Do not copy, forge or alter a ticket or a ticket code, and do not try to get in with one that is not valid.
- Do not attempt to reach data, accounts or orders that are not yours, probe or interfere with the security of the service, or take it offline.
- Do not scrape the site or buy tickets by automated means, and do not circumvent limits on how many tickets one person may buy.
- Do not impersonate anyone, including an organiser or us.
We may remove content, void tickets, suspend accounts and report matters to the authorities where any of this happens — see clause 14.
12.Availability of the service
We work to keep the platform running and secure, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption. We may take it down for maintenance, and parts of it depend on services we do not control — a payment provider, an email service, a network.
Features change. We may add, alter or withdraw parts of the service. If a change materially affects an event already on sale, we will tell the organiser.
13.Limits on our responsibility
We are responsible for running the ticketing platform. We are not responsible for the events themselves — see clause 3 — and so we are not liable for an event that is cancelled, postponed, disappointing, or for anything that happens to you at one.
Where we are liable to you, our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid on that order. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business or indirect losses.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
14.Suspension and closing your account
You may close your account at any time by writing to us. Tickets you have already bought remain valid, and we will keep the records we are required to keep.
We may suspend or close an account, void tickets or withhold money where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, where there is fraud or a payment dispute, or where the law requires it. Unless doing so would be unlawful or would frustrate an investigation, we will tell you why, and a buyer whose valid ticket we void will be refunded.
15.Changes to these terms
We may change these terms — because the law changes, or because the service does. The date at the top of this page always says when the current version took effect, and we will give notice of a significant change by email or on the site.
The terms that apply to an order are the ones in effect when you placed it. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
16.Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria have jurisdiction over any dispute.
Please write to us first. Almost everything is settled faster by email than by anything else, and we would rather fix a problem than argue about it.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them continue to apply.
